Recently, we’ve noticed that some Xfinity box users are experiencing the blinking green light on their Xfinity cable box.

Why is my Xfinity cable box blinking green?

Your Xfinity cable box is blinking green for these reasons; it is not fully authorized yet, struggling in connecting and getting signals, there’s undergoing an update, or your digital adapter is ready for activation. Below, we’ve listed the various patterns of blinking green light.

Patterns of Blinking green light on Xfinity 

  • Persistent Blinking Green Light – In this case, it means that your cable box is not fully activated or authorized yet.
  • Long/steady and continuous blinking green light – If this is the case, it means that your cable box is struggling to get signals. It can be due to an outage or loose cable connections. Also, you may experience this pattern if your Xfinity cable box hasn’t been activated yet.
  • Three short blinking green –  It means that your Xfinity cable box is receiving or undergoing an update.
  • Two short blinking green – It means that your Digital Adapter is ready for authorization.

How to fix the blinking green light on the Xfinity box?

To fix the blinking green light on your Xfinity box, try power cycling your Xfinity box, checking all the cable connections, activating the digital adapter, waiting until your box is ready for activation, or waiting until the update is complete. 

Power Cycle

Let’s try power cycling the Xfinity box to fix the blinking green; it is one of the quickest and most effective ways to resolve such issues. Here’s how to perform a power cycle;

  • Press and hold the Power button on your Xfinity box.
  • Wait until the box turns back on.

If there’s no power button on your box, then try this;

  • Unplug your Xfinity box from the wall outlet.
  • Now, wait for 30 seconds.
  • After that, plug it back into the wall outlet and turn it on.

Does this fix the blinking green? If not, move on to the next.

Check the connection

Make sure that the cables that are attached to your Xfinity box are securely connected. If you find any loose cable, then connect it properly. 

Another thing, check to see if any cable is damaged, faulty, or frayed. If any, then replace it with the new one. 

Also, try disconnecting and reconnecting the HDMI cable. Connect it properly and check if this fixes the blinking green light.

Wait until the Xfinity box is ready for activation.

If you’re experiencing a long/steady and continuous blinking green light while using a Digital Adapter, it means you can not activate or authorize it yet. 

In this case, you need to wait until the blinking changes. 

Once the pattern changes to 2 short blinks, move ahead and activate your box.

Note: If you’ve installed a new Digital Adapter, then wait for an hour. 

Activate Digital Adapter

Is your Digital Adapter ready for activation? If it is, then follow the steps to activate it. 

Keep your account number and Digital Adapter’s serial number with you. You need these two things to complete the verification process. 

You’ll find the Xfinity account number in your Xfinity booklet or on your bill or receipt.

To locate the Digital Adapter’s serial number, look at the bottom of it. 

To activate your Digital Adapter;

  • Ensure to plug in your Digital Adapter before calling.
  • Now, call 1-888-634-4434 and follow the instructions. You’ll be asked to provide your account number and serial number.
  • At last, wait for a while after activation and turn on your TV.

If the green light turns steady, start streaming your shows and movies.

Wait until the Software update completes

If you’re experiencing a 3 short blinking green light, it means your Xfinity cable box is receiving or undergoing an update.

Xfinity cable boxes update automatically. In addition to improving your cable box’s performance, these updates help ensure that it runs at its best.

If your box is blinking 3 short green light, then do not turn off or unplug it from its power source.

It will take some minutes to complete. If it’s taking too long, power cycling your device as we’ve instructed earlier.

Contact Xfinity Support

Is your Xfinity cable box still blinking green light? If so, then try contacting the Xfinity customer support. 

You can contact them via chat, email, and calling on their customer service hotline – 1-800-XFINITY (1-800-934-6489).

Ask their customer executive to send a signal refresh to reset your Xfinity cable box. Or ask them to send you a technician to resolve the issue.
