Fix Vizio TV Won’t Turn On

Does your Vizio TV suddenly not turn on? Vizio TV is one of the top brands for TV sets in the USA. But if you are facing any kinds of issues like Vizio TV won’t turn on then it can be a big concern for you.

It happens. We’ve all had those moments when we rush out of the house to get ready to go out in style, only to find our TV won’t turn on. That is pretty much my worst nightmare when going out. But I don’t have too many problems with my Vizio TV since it seems like most of the problems can be fixed easily and with minimal time spent trying different things.

How To Fix Vizio TV Won’t Turn On?

You can fix this issue by power cycling your TV. All you need to do is, unplug your Vizio TV from the wall outlet and wait for at least 60 seconds. Afterward, plug the TV back into the wall outlet and turn it on. Now, your problem should no longer persist.

Power Cycle your Vizo TV

Power cycling is one of the easiest and most effective ways to fix such issues. To perform the power cycle on your Vizio TV, follow the below steps;

  1. Unplug the Vizio’s Power Cord from the outlet.
  2. Now, locate the Power button on the back panel of your Vizio TV.
  3. Then, press and hold the Power button for at least 10 seconds. This will drain the residual power from the tv.
  4. After that, plug the Vizio’s Power cord back into the outlet and try turning it on.

Does this resolve the issue? If not, move on to the next method.

Check the Remote

If you’re unable to turn on the TV using the remote, then there might be something wrong with your TV’s remote itself. To rectify and fix this,

  • Open the camera on your smartphone and point the TV’s remote receiver towards the camera and try pressing the buttons on your remote to see if there’s white/purple light flashing.
  • If not, try changing the batteries.
    • Open the back lid of your Vizio TV remote, remove the batteries and replace them with the new sets of batteries.
  • If the issue persists, remove the batteries from the Vizio TV remote.
    • Now, press and hold the Power button given on your remote for at least 15 seconds.
    • After that, put the batteries back in their place and try turning on your Vizio TV.

Check the Vizo’s TV Power

The red light on the TV’s standby side, which stays on even when it isn’t on, is usually a sign of a power issue. In this scenario, try checking the power source of your Vizio TV;

  • Press the Menu button given on your remote or TV panel. There were instances where the TV is turned on but the display has some issues. So, try pressing the Menu button and check if the menu shows up on the screen.
  • If pressing the Menu button didn’t show up on the screen, then there might be some issues with the TV’s power source. Make sure that the TV is securely plugged into the power outlet.

Select the Correct Input Source

You might not be able to turn on your Vizio TV because of an incorrect input source. It is important that you choose the correct input source for your TV in order for it to work properly.

Ensure that your TV source/input matches the HDMI port you are using, regardless of whether you’re using a streaming device, DVD player, or cable box.

To select the correct input source;

Using remote;

  • Turn on the TV and press the Source button on the TV’s remote.
  • Now, select the correct input source.

Without remote;

  1. Turn on the TV.
  2. Now, press the Menu button on your TV.
  3. After that, navigate to the Source option using the Volume buttons.
  4. Then, press the Menu button to select the correct input source.

Try Plugging Into Another Outlet

If you’re still unable to get past the “Vizio TV won’t turn on” issue, then we suggest you plugging your Vizio TV into another outlet.

The problem sometimes lies with outlets that have blown fuses or shorts, but we’re unaware of them.

So, unplug your Vizio TV from the current outlet and plug it into the other wall outlet. After that, try turning on the TV and check if it turns on or not.

Fix: Vizio TV not Turning on but the light is on

There is also a possibility that your Vizio TV won’t turn on because of a problem with the backlight. It is still possible for the TV to display pictures, despite the white light on, if it fails.

To verify this;

  1. Dim the light in your room.
  2. Now, point a flashlight toward your Vizio TV screen.
  3. Your Vizio TV screen will display a faint image if the backlight isn’t working.

In this scenario, you need to replace the backlight. You can replace it by contacting Vizio customer support or a nearby service center.

Factory Reset Vizio TV

Some users reported that they managed to turn on the TV successfully after resetting their Vizio TV to the factory settings. Performing a factory reset on your Vizio TV will delete all the saved data and preferences from your TV.

By resetting your TV, you will also delete and remove all the firmware updates, restoring it to its “factory default version ”.

If the latest firmware is causing some issues in powering on the TV, then it will be removed after resetting your TV to factory settings.
