Ring Doorbell Keeps Buffering

Ring doorbell is one of the most popular devices in the smart security market. This doorbell has a smart security feature that sends alerts to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop when motion is detected and lets you check in on your home from anywhere with live on-demand video and audio. However, sometimes you may encounter some error or issue on your ring doorbell. 

Recently, we’ve seen numerous ring users reporting that they’re having a buffering issue on their Ring Doorbell. Is your Ring doorbell also behaving the same? If so, this post will be helpful for you. 

In this post, we’ll discuss how you can get rid of this “Ring doorbell keeps buffering” issue. 

What causes the Ring doorbell to keep buffering?

You may experience “Ring doorbell keeps buffering” due to a poor internet connection, slow internet download or upload speeds, corrupted or damaged cache, temporary bug or glitch, or maybe your Ring doorbell needs a reset to work usually. 

How to fix “Ring doorbell keeps buffering”?

To get this fixed, we’ve gathered some of the effective working solutions that can help you in resolving the buffering issue on your Ring doorbell. 

Force Stop and Restart Ring App

Try force-stopping and then restart your Ring application on your device. Doing this will stop the ring app’s foreground and background process and fix the bugs and glitches that are causing the buffering issue on your ring doorbell. To do so, 

On Android;

  • Close the Ring app and navigate to Settings on your device. 
  • Now, scroll down to the Apps and locate the Ring app.
  • After that, tap on Force Stop and then launch the Ring app.

After launching the Ring app, check if the doorbell keeps buffering. 

Clear Ring App Cache

As we discussed above, your ring doorbell is buffering due to some corrupted or damaged. To fix this, try clearing the cache of the Ring app and check if doing this resolves the buffering issue or not.

  • Navigate to the Settings on your android device
  • Now, scroll down to the Apps section and locate the Ring app in the list.
  • After that, tap on Clear Cache and restart the Ring app on your device to see if this fixed the buffering issue on your doorbell.

Verify your Connection

Another thing you need to check is how your internet connection is working. Is your mobile property connected to the internet? Are you getting the proper signal on your mobile? Is your router modem properly connected and turned on? Verify all these things and if you’re still getting the buffering issue, move on to the following methods and improve your internet connection.

Check your Internet Speed

The first thing you need to do is, check the internet speed you’re getting now. The speed of your wireless internet network determines how fast it can upload and download data. If you’re getting a slow or unstable connection, it may affect your Ring app, and you’ll encounter such buffer issues on your doorbell. To run a speed test;

  • Grab your smartphone and head to the area where your Ring doorbell is installed.
  • Ensure that mobile data is turned off. Open the web browser on your mobile and visit speedtest.net or bandwidthplace.com.
  • Now, run the speed test and check the downloading and uploading speed.

Ring doorbell requires 2Mbps or above to function properly. If you’re getting an internet speed lower than 2Mbps, try moving your router closer to your Ring doorbell or calling your Internet service provider.

Check Wi-Fi Signal Strength

If you’re getting good uploading and downloading speed and your doorbell is still behaving the same, then there might be some issue with the signal strength between your ring doorbell and router. To check this, 

  • Launch the Ring app on your device.
  • Now, tap on the three lines at the top left.
  • Then, tap on Devices and select your Ring doorbell.
  • After that, tap on Device Health and check your Signal Strength under the Network section.

If it shows Poor or Very Poor signal strength, then this can be caused due to the distance between the Ring doorbell and router or the layout of your house. 

It may also happen if there is interference from other devices (TVs, game systems, etc.) or materials in your home (stucco, brick, metal, large mirrors, etc.). Try placing the router/modem closer to your Ring doorbell, 

Resetting your Modem or Router

If that didn’t help you, your ISP isn’t available. Then, you try resetting your modem or router. May doing this will resolve your issue. To do this, follow the instructions below:

  • Unplug your router or modem from the power outlet. If they’re separate, then unplug both your modem and router.
  • Now, wait 15-20 seconds and then plug them back in.
  • After that, wait until the internet is restored and established properly.

Connect a different device to your wifi network and try to visit a website or stream a video to see whether your internet is working again. If it is, repeat the setup again.

Attempt using a dedicated 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz network 

2.4GHz Wi-Fi signals are best suited for Ring doorbells for the best range. Other ring doorbells can also operate on 5GHz signals, so if you have a 5GHz doorbell that is disconnecting from the network or experiencing connectivity issues, you can try connecting to your router’s dedicated 2.4GHz network.

Reset Ring Doorbell

If your Ring doorbell is still behaving the same and it keeps buffering, try resetting it. 

On Ring Doorbell 1;

  • Locate and press the orange Reset button on the back of your Ring Doorbell for at least 15 seconds.
  • Then, release the button. Now, the ring light flashes to indicate that your doorbell is resetting.
  • Once the light goes off, it means the reset process is completed.
  • After that, set up your Ring doorbell and check to see if this fixes the buffering issue.

On Ring Doorbell 2,

  • Press and hold the Black/Setup button given on the front side of the camera for 10 seconds.
  • Then, release the button. Now, the ring light flashes to indicate that your doorbell is resetting.
  • Once the light goes off, it means the reset process is completed.
  • After that, set up your Ring doorbell and check to see if this fixes the buffering issue.

On Ring Doorbell Pro,

  • Press and hold the Black/Setup button on the camera’s right side for 10 seconds.
  • Then, release the button. Now, the ring lig
  • ht flashes to indicate that your doorbell is resetting.
  • Once the light goes off, it means the reset process is completed.
  • After that, set up your Ring doorbell and check to see if this fixes the buffering issue.
