How to Fix Chromebook Google Play Store “Download Pending”

Recently, I visited my uncle’s house and found that my brother has bought a new Chromebook laptop. I decided to download some apps to test the power of the Chromebook. I launched the playstore and decided to download some steps. After clicking on the install button, the app was stuck on download pending.

This is a really frustrating issue, as I was unable to download or update any app on the Chromebook. When I looked online at this issue, I found that many people are facing this problem. After searching for about an hour, I was able to resolve this problem on Chromebook.

Restart Your Chromebook

Restart the chromebook can fix the download pending issue on your laptop. This will clear the ram and storage of your Chromebook, and after that you’ll be able to download apps on chromebook.

  1. Click on the battery and other icons from the bottom right side of screen.
  2. Now click on power icon.
  3. Click the power off option.
  4. Wait for chromebook to shut down.
  5. Now turn on your chromebook.

Or

  1. Press and hold the power button on chromebook for 5-10 seconds.
  2. Wait for the chromebook to turn off completely.
  3. Now turn on your chromebook using the power button.

Launch the Chromebook and try downloading the app again from the play store.

Change network preference

If the apps are stuck on download pending, then changing the network preference in the settings can fix this problem. You can set the network preference from the settings by following the steps below.

  1. Open play store and go to settings.
  2. Now click on “network preferences”.
  3. Select the auto-update option.
  4. Make sure “over any network” is selected.

After changing the network settings, check if you are able to update or download apps on your Chromebook.

Check Your internet connection

You can also face download pending error on Chromebook while downloading apps due to slow or unstable internet connection. Fixing the slow internet connection can fix the play store downloading issue.

  • Check your internet speed at speedtest.net, now check if the internet is working or not.
  • If the internet is slow, then unplug your router from the power socket.
  • Wait for 10 minutes.
  • Now turn on your router.

Now check if the internet is working, if not then contact your isp for help. Once the internet is working you’ll be able to download and install apps from playstore.

Clear Cache of Play Store on Chromebook

Deleting the cached data of play store on chromebook can fix the download pending issue. You can easily delete the cache of play store by following the steps below.

  1. Go to your chromebook settings.
  2. Select apps.
  3. Now click on the manage your apps option.
  4. Locate and click on play store.
  5. Now click “more settings and permissions”.
  6. Go to storage option.
  7. Now click the clear cache option.

Once the play store corrupted cached data is cleared try downloading the apps again.

Sign Out and Sign Back In

If the above steps didn’t help in resolving play store apps download pending issue, then try relogging into your account. Some users have reported that they were able to fix the download pending issue by signing out and signing back into their accounts. To do so follow the steps below.

  1. Click on the icons on bottom left side.
  2. Now click on the sign out option.
  3. Now restart your chromebook
  4. Login to your account.

Now try downloading the apps using the play store on your chromebook.

Re-add Playstore on Chromebook

Some users have reported that the apps are not updating or downloading then you have this issue resolved by deleted and readding playstore. You can re-add play store by following the steps below.

Remove

  1. Open chromebook settings.
  2. Go to apps.
  3. Now select google play store.
  4. Click the remove button.

  1. Click the bottom right side of screen.
  2. Click the settings icon.
  3. Select the apps option.
  4. Now click on google play store.
  5. Enable it.

After re-adding google play store to chromebook, open the play store and check if the download pending issue is resolved.

Hard Reset Your Chromebook (Powerwash)

If none of the steps work for you then you can try hard resetting your chromebook. Doing hard reset can fix the play store download pending error on chromebook. You can hard reset your chromebook by following the steps below.

  1. Power off your chromebook.
  2. Now press and hold the refresh button then press power button.
  3. Once your chromebook turns on release the power button.

On some Chromebook models, you need to unplug it from Chromebook, and remove and re-insert battery to hard reset your laptop.

After hard reset of your Chromebook, launch the play store and check if you are able to download apps through play store.
