Nvidia Control Panel Not Opening

NVIDIA control panel is used to adjust screen settings like resolution, in-game graphic optimization, screen orientation, etc. But many people are unable to open the NVIDIA control panel on their pc. This happens because of an outdated driver, a bug in the NVIDIA processes.

How to Fix NVIDIA Control Panel Not Opening on Windows 10?

Restart NVIDIA Control Panel

Restarting is one of the most effective methods to resolve such issues. So, try restarting the NVIDIA Control Panel and check if this works for you;

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  • Now, select the NVIDIA Control Panel and click on the End task button.
  • Wait for a while and open the NVIDIA Control Panel.

If it’s still not opening, then move on to the following method.

Restart NVIDIA Services

Services like NVIDIA Display Container LS, NVIDIA LocalSystem Container, NVIDIA Telemetry Container, etc., are necessary to run the NVIDIA software flawlessly. If these services are stopped, then you’ll likely face such issues. 

So, try restarting all these services. To do so, follow the below-given steps;

  • Press Windows + R keys to bring up the Run utility box.
  • Now, type services.msc and press Enter. This will open up the Services window.
  • Locate NVIDIA Display Container LS service in the list, then right-click on it and select Restart.
  • Afterward, restart the following service using the same procedure: NVIDIA LocalSystem Container, NVIDIA NetworkService Container, and NVIDIA Telemetry Container. 
  • Once you restart all the given NVIDIA services, check whether the panel appears in the system tray or context menu on the desktop.

Update NVIDIA Drivers

Keeping your graphics card driver up-to-date is extremely important. There can be all kinds of errors after major Windows 10 and 11 updates, especially compatibility issues.

In some cases, the Control Panel may have been missing or won’t open due to your NVIDIA display driver being outdated.

So, try updating the graphics card driver to the latest available version by following the below given ways;

Update Driver Automatically

  • Press Windows + R keys to open the Run utility box.
  • Now, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter. This will navigate you to the Device Manager window.
  • In the Device Manager window, head to the Display adapters and expand it.
  • After that, right-click on the driver you’re using and then click on the Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for drivers. Doing this will allow your PC to update your driver.
  • Restart your PC once you’ve updated your driver.

Update Driver Manually

  • Press Windows + R keys to bring up the Run utility box.
  • Now, type dxdiag and press Enter. This will open the DirectX Diagnostics tool window.
  • After that, click on Display 1 or Display 2 to find which NVIDIA driver is installed on your PC.
  • Once you have checked out the installed driver, visit the NVIDIA Driver page and enter the given details.
  • Click on the Download button and then install the updated driver on your pc.

After installing the updated driver, your issue should be resolved now. Try launching the NVIDIA control panel to check whether the problem is fixed. 

End NVIDIA Display Container Process

If you’re still unable to open the NVIDIA Control Panel, then you need to quit or stop the NVIDIA Display Container task. Ending the NVIDIA Display Container task might resolve the issue, and it will get back to usual.

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open the Task Manager.
  • Now, click on the Details tab and locate the NVIDIA Display Container process. 
  • Once you locate it, click on the End task button and ensure to End the task of all other NVIDiA Display Container processes.
  • Afterward, wait until the process restarts and then try launching the NVIDIA Control Panel. 

Start Nvidia Control Panel Using the Application Located in Installation Directory

Many users have reported that they’re able to open the NVIDIA control panel by launching the Nvidia application from the installation directory. You can follow the steps below to open the Nvidia control panel from the installation directory:

  1. Go to the following location on your pc: This PC > System C: > Program files > NVIDIA corporation > Control panel client.
  2. Now double click on nvcplui.exe to open the NVIDIA control panel.

Now you’ll be able to open the NVIDIA control panel without any problem. Another solution to fix this issue is to reinstall the NVIDIA driver which is mentioned in the next steps.

Reinstall NVIDIA Driver on Your PC

If you’re still not able to open the NVIDIA control panel then try a clean reinstallation of the NVIDIA driver on your pc. A clean reinstallation will remove any corrupted files from your pc. This will fix the NVIDIA control panel not opening issue on your pc. 

  1. Right-click on the Windows icon from the bottom left side of the screen.
  2. Now click on Device Manager.
  3. Now click on Display adapters. In the expanded menu, right click on the NVIDIA display adapter, and click on Uninstall.
  4. Select Delete the driver software on this Device option and click OK.
  5. Now, go to NVIDIA’s official page to download the latest version of NVIDIA driver for your pc.
  6. Now select the correct product type, product series, etc. depending on your graphics card click on search. 
  7. Download the driver on your pc.
  8. Now launch the driver installer and choose customer options, and click on a clean install. This will remove the previous files from your pc for a fresh installation of the NVIDIA driver on your pc.

Use the DISM++ tool to Remove NVIDIA bad entries

You can use the DISM++ tool on your pc to remove the bad entries from your pc to fix the NVIDIA control panel not opening on your pc. To fix the issue follow the steps below:

  1. Install DISM++ tool from here.
  2. Now, open the DISM++ tool and go to APPXs and delete the NVIDIA control panel entry. Also, delete the Provisioned APPX entry.
  3. Now, go to main drive (mostly C drive) and go to Program files > Windows apps.
  4. Here delete the following entry: NVIDIACorp.NVIDIAControlPanel_8.1.956.0_x64__56jybvy8sckqj (You may not find x64 depending on your pc. Still delete the following entry)
  5. Restart your pc and install the NVIDIA control panel application from the windows store.
NVIDIA Control Panel Won’t Open on Windows 11

It may surprise you to learn that this issue has also surfaced on Windows 11. You can also use the solutions we outlined above for Windows 10 on the new operating system.

To fix this, try restarting the 

  • Press Windows + R  to open the Run utility box.
  • Now, type service.msc and press Enter.
  • After that, locate the NVIDIA Display Container LS.
  • If the NVIDIA Display Container LS service isn’t running, then Start it from the menu.
  • Afterward, try opening the NVIDIA Control Panel.
