Discovery Plus Keeps On Buffering

Is your Discovery Plus buffering while streaming content on it? We know how frustrating this is; we at droidtheory also have been using Discovery Plus for some past years, and unfortunately, yesterday night, we encountered this issue. But, we know how to deal with such cases and managed to resolve the issue by following some steps.

If you’re also encountering the same issue we faced last night, this post will surely help you. In today’s post, we’ll discuss the steps we followed and what other steps you can follow to fix this issue.

Can you change the streaming quality on Discovery Plus?

There’s an option to change the streaming quality on the Discovery Plus application. All you need to do is, select the show or movie you want to watch and on the video player, select Settings > Video Quality and set the streaming quality.

If your show or movie keeps on buffering, it can be resolved by setting the Video Quality to Standard or Low. If it didn’t fix the buffering issue, below, we’ve penned down a detailed guide on how you can fix this issue.

Why does Discovery Plus keep buffering?

There could be several reasons behind why your Discovering Plus keeps on buffering. But we’ve shortlisted some of the possible reasons that can cause this issue.

  • Corrupted Data and Cache
  • Weak or Unstable Network
  • Bugs or Glitches
  • Outdated Discovery Plus app

How To Fix Discovery Plus Keeps Buffering?

Here are the steps that we’ve followed to fix the issue. All you need to do is, follow the steps as instructed. Let’s move on to the fixes.

Relaunch the Discovery Plus app

You may have tried this, but if you didn’t, try to relaunch the Discovery Plus application/channel on your streaming device. This will refresh the app and fix the minor glitches and bugs that are causing the buffering issue. To relaunch the Discovery Plus app;

  • Quit the Discovery Plus app and clear the recent apps section (if any).
  • Now, wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • After that, relaunch it and start streaming the buffering content; check if it’s still buffering.

Re-Log into Discovery Plus app

If relaunching Discover Plus didn’t change anything, try to sign out and back into your Discovery Plus account. One of your friends resolved this issue (on another streaming service) by doing this, so try it for once and check if this resolves your problem.

To do so,

  • Launch Discovery Plus app and select More option.
  • Now, select Account and then log out of your Account.
  • After that, head to the Sign in or login option.
  • And enter the credentials to log in to your Discovery Plus account.

Reboot your Streaming Device

If the issue is still there, reboot the device on which you are streaming the Discovery Plus application. In most cases, temporary bugs and glitches in the device’s software can lead to such issues. To get these bugs and glitches fixed, try performing the reboot on your streaming device;

On Android:

  • Press and hold the Power button until some option appears.
  • After that, tap on the Restart.

On iOS:

  • Press and hold the Power button until Power off shows up on the screen.
  • Now, slide to Power off.

On Windows:

  • Press Alt+F4 keys on your keyboard.
  • And then select Restart

On Smart TV:

  • Press the Power button to turn off your TV.
  • Now, unplug the TV from the wall outlet.
  • Then, wait for 2-3 minutes.
  • After that, plug the TV into the wall outlet and turn it on.

Once your streaming device restarts, navigate to the Discovery Plus app to launch it and then check if it is still buffering or not.

Clear Cache and Data

Clearing the cache and data will remove all your downloaded contents and log you out of your Discovery Plus account, but it’s one of the effective methods to resolve such issues. Sometimes we experience buffering issues due to the corrupted cache and data of the app, and clearing its cache and data can help you out. So, try to clear the cache and data of the Discovery Plus app;

How do I clear the cache on my Discovery Plus TV?
  • Navigate to the Settings of your streaming device.
  • Now, scroll down to the Apps section and locate Discovery Plus.
  • After that, select Clear Cache and then Clear Data
  • Lastly, launch the Discovery Plus app and log in to your Account to see if this solves your problem.

Clear Browser Cache

If you’re a user who streams Discovery Plus on a browser and encountering the same buffering issue, try clearing the browser cache and data. To do so;

  • Open your browser’s Settings and click on Privacy and security.
  • Now, click on Clear Browsing Data, then select the Time Range to All Time.
  • After that, click on Clear Data.
  • At last, visit the Discovery Plus website and start streaming a show.

Now, your problem should be fixed. If not, move on to the following step.

Check your Internet Connection

To stream content on any streaming app, we need to have an internet connection. If you are streaming content on an app like Discovery Plus, you will need a minimum of 0.5 Mbps of internet speed, and if you want to stream the content in higher quality, you will need 4-5Mbps.

What if you aren’t getting the minimum required internet speed? Then, you will face streaming issues on your Discovery Plus, and maybe that’s the reason your Discovery Plus keeps on buffering.

To check what speed you’re getting now, visit Fast.com or Speedtest.net. If you aren’t getting the required internet speed, move on to the next step.

Reboot your Router

To fix your internet connection issue, try rebooting your router.

  • Turn off the router and unplug it from the power source.
  • Now, wait for 5 minutes.
  • After that, plug it back into the power source and turn it on. Let your router start properly once it’s connected with the streaming device and check if the issue is resolved.

If this doesn’t resolve the issue, try contacting your ISP

Use the Discovery Plus app on other devices.

Do you have any other streaming device, like Smart TV or phone? If you’ve any, then try to stream Discovery Plus on it. Install it on your other device and if it’s already there, then just sign into your Account and play a show or movie. If you can stream the show or movie without any buffer, then there might be some fault in your Discovery Plus app (installed on another device).

Update Discovery Plus

Is your Discovery Plus running on an outdated version? If so, try updating it. Updating the app to its latest version fixes the bugs, adds new features, and improves the app’s functionality.

How do I update my Discovery Plus?

  • If any update option is available, select it and update your Discovery Plus app to its latest version.
  • After updating the Discovery Plus app, launch it and watch a show or movie to see if this resolves the buffering issue.

Reinstall the Discovery Plus app

Seems like nothing is working out for you; if so, reinstalling the Discovery Plus app is the last method to fix the issue. Reinstalling the Discovery Plus app will delete all your downloaded shows or movies and sign you out from your Account; it also deletes all the corrupted files and data related to the Discovery Plus app. Such corrupted files and data can be the reason for buffering. To reinstall the Discovery Plus app;

  • Exit the Discovery Plus app and navigate to the Settings on your device.
  • Now, scroll to the Apps or Installed Apps section and locate the Discovery Plus app.
