To stop Discord from crashing, you can try turning on the legacy mode, deleting Discord’s AppData cache, reinstalling it, turning off the hardware acceleration, or disabling the compatibility mode. Below we’ve listed these troubleshooting methods to fix this issue.

Turning on the Legacy mode

If the issue is occurring while using voice chat, then this method is perfect for resolving the issue. Turning on the Legacy mode fixes this issue for a number of users. To turn on Legacy mode, follow the below steps;

  1. Launch the Discord app.

Disable Unnecessary Application Running in the background

  2. Open the Cache folder by double clicking.
  3. Now you’ll see all the cache files. Delete all files from this folder by Selecting All (CTRL + A) and pressing the Delete button.

  2. Delete all files of this folder too by Selecting All (CTRL + A) and pressing the Delete button.

Delete and Install Discord Updated Version

If your discord is still crashing or closing on its own, then deleting and installing latest version od discord can help in resolve the issue. You can follow the steps below.

  1. On Keyboard, press the Windows + R button and type %AppData%\discord and click on OK.
  2. Scroll down and select Discord folder, press the Delete button and delete the folder.
  3. In the address bar of Windows Explorer, type %LocalAppData% and press Enter.
  4. Select the Discord folder. Press the Delete button and confirm any additional prompts if asked.
  5. Press the Windows Key and R button simultaneously and type appwiz.cpl and click on OK.

  • Reboot your computer.
  • Download the app and reinstall it.

Turn off Hardware Acceleration To fix Discord Keeps Crashing

Hardware acceleration is a great feature. When it is enabled, it handles all the graphic rendering with GPU to make the experience smoother. But enabling hardware acceleration can also cause Discord to keep crashing issues. You can turn it off to fix the issue with the steps mentioned below.

  1. Open the discord app and click on Settings.

Disable Compatibility Mode

Compatibility mode enables Discord to run smoothly according to the version of your operating system. But, sometimes, this can be the cause of Discord crashing issues.

You need to turn off the compatibility mode to see if the discord app is still crashing. You can follow the below steps to disable compatibility mode.

  1. Close the Discord app completely.
  2. Now right-click on the discord icon on your desktop and click on Properties. 
  3. In the properties, click on the Compatibility tab. Here you’ll find the compatibility mode option. Deselect the box next to Run this program in compatibility mode.

Fix discord keeps crashing on macOS

If you’re facing the discord app crashing randomly, then you can tweak the above discord settings to fix the crashing issue on your macOS. If the above steps didn’t help you, then try reinstalling Discord on your mac by following the steps below:

  1. Press the command + q button to close Discord.
  2. Now use Siri to open the activity monitor and end every discord process.
  3. Press command + g to open the finder and enter the following path to open these two discord folders.

~/Library/Application Support/Discord

  1. Enter the path mentioned above in the finder and hit enter.
  2. After hitting enter, search for discord folders and delete them in both scenarios. If you cannot find anything related to Discord in the second command (/Library/Application Support/Discord), don’t worry and continue with the steps mentioned below.
  3. Now go to the Applications folder and delete Discord. 
  4. Now delete everything from your trash also.
  5. Restart your pc and go to this link, and download and install Discord on your mac.

Now you’ll not face Discord that keeps closing on your macOS.

Discord Keeps Crashing on iOS and Android devices

  1. Clear cache and data (android): If you’re on android, then long-press the discord app icon. Click on the storage option and delete cache and app data. Doing this will most likely fix the Discord crashing issue on your android device.
  2. Update your discord app (Android/iOS): Sometimes, the outdated app can cause crashing and lagging issues on your mobile devices. Instead of updating, delete the discord app from your android or ios device. Now, go to the play store/app store and install the latest version of the discord app on your device. Now you’ll not face Discord that keeps crashing on your phone. 

Note: Sometimes, some init files and processes are not updated with the simple update process. That is why we recommend you completely delete the discord app from your phone and then reinstall it from the App Store or Play Store.

Uninstall Android system WebView updates

After a recent update of software by google, many apps are crashing on launch, like Discord. It is caused by the android system WebView. And there are two ways to fix this issue.

After uninstalling updates of the android system WebView discord crashing on android will stop. To do this;

  • Go to Settings on your phone > Apps> App Lists.
  • Now, locate and tap on android system WebView > tap on three dots from the top right side of the screen> tap Uninstall updates.

Another way to do this is; 

  • Go to the Play Store and search for Android System WebView.
  • Now you’ll get the Uninstall option from there.
  • After uninstalling, restart your android phone and check if you’re able to use Discord or not. 

(Note: If you’re not getting the android system WebView in the settings, then first you need to uninstall recent google chrome updates, then you’ll get the android system webview.)

  1. Recently google stated that they’ve rolled out an update of the android system WebView and google chrome to fix issues of apps like Discord crashing on android. So you can try updating the android system WebView and google chrome to the latest version to see if that fixes the issue. 

If that doesn’t work, try method 1; that will most likely fix the Discord that keeps crashing on android. Also, Google will fix the issue in the coming days.
