Fixed: Blue Ring Of Death On Echo Dot

Is your Echo Dot stuck on the Blue Ring of Death? Echo Dot is a smart device that you can listen to music and make calls. I have been using the device for almost two years now, and I’ve become comfortable with its quirks and little glitches along the way.

Last week, I experienced a solid blue light or Blue Ring of Death on my Echo Dot Gen 3. But as I said, I’ve been using the device for the past few years, and I know how to deal with such issues.

If you’re here, you must be experiencing the same issue. If this is the case, this guide will help you in resolving your Echo Dot’s blue screen of death issue.

What do Blue Lights On Echo Dot indicate?

Cyan On Solid BLUE

A cyan spotlight on the solid blue ring light means your Alexa is listening.

As Alexa processes your request, the light ring glows briefly. If you see a blue light blinking briefly, the device may be receiving an update.

Spinning Cyan Light

The spinning teal and blue indicates that your device is starting up. An orange light appears when the device is ready for setup if it hasn’t been set up yet.

How do I fix the Blue Ring Of Death on my Echo Dot?

Blue Ring Of Death can be fixed by hard resetting the Echo Dot, setting it up again, updating the Echo Dot and Alexa app to the latest available version, troubleshooting your network, and disabling the Do Not Disturb Mode.

Try following these simple tips;

  • Ensure that you’re using the Original Adapter of the Echo Dot.
  • Another thing that you need to check is whether your Echo Dot is getting adequate power to work. If the outlet is bad or not working, try plugging your Echo Dot into another one.
  • Turn Off Night Light: If you’ve been using Echo Dot for a while, you must be aware of its Skill feature. And Night Light is one of the skills of the Echo Dot.

    You may have mistakenly or other launched this skill, which is why your Alexa Keeps On flashing solid blue light.

    To turn this off, say, Alexa, Stop,” and your Echo dot will stop flashing the solid blue light.

Reboot Echo Dot

Let’s start with the simplest way to fix the issue. All you need to do is;

  • Turn off your Echo Dot using the Power button.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • And turn it back on. Let your Echo Dot connect with the network.

Does this resolve the issue? If not, move on to the next one.

Hard Reset Echo Dot

The next thing you need to try is hard resetting your Echo Dot. Doing so will fix if any random bug or glitch is causing the issue.

  • Turn off and unplug your Echo Dot from the outlet.
  • Wait for 5 minutes.
  • Afterward, plug the Echo’s Power adapter back into the outlet and turn it on.

Now, your Echo Dot will start flashing the spinning cyan on blue light, and it’ll disappear once your Echo Dot is connected to the network. If it’s still there, follow the next method.

Reset and Setup Echo Dot

If your Echo Dot still shows the solid blue light, this method will definitely work for you. And, to be honest, when I encountered BROD last week, this was the step that worked for me.

To reset and setup your Echo Dot;

  • Press the Action button on your Echo Dot for 10-15 seconds or until the spinning orange light shows up.
  • Now, launch the Alexa app on your smartphone.
  • Then, head to the Devices section and follow the on-screen instruction to Set-up your Echo Dot.

Once you’ve connected and successfully set up your Echo Dot, look at your Echo dot, and you’ll see that the Blue Ring of Death is no longer.

But, what if it gets stuck in the Setup mode? To fix this, check Echo Dot Stuck In Setup Mode.

Update your Echo Dot and Alexa app

In some cases, such issues may occur when devices or apps are running on an outdated version.

Although Echo Dot devices are designed to update automatically, if, due to some issue, it is not updated yet, then try updating it now.

To Check for Echo Dot’s Software Update;

  • Say, “Alexa, check for software updates.”
  • It will start checking and downloading the update if available.

To update the Alexa app;

  • Head to the App Store (iOS) or Play Store (Android) and search for Alexa.
  • Then, check if there’s an Update option next to the Alexa.
  • If there’s any, select it and update the app to its latest.
  • After updating the app, set up your Echo Dot again and check if this resolves the issue.

Troubleshoot your Network

If the blue light is still there, try the following ways to fix it;

  • Check your WiFi: Make sure that your WiFi is running fine and stable. You can check this by the indicator LEDs on your Router or modem.

    If it’s indicating a flashing orange or red light, it means your network is dropping connection or having an issue.

    In this case, try hard resetting your Router and modem.
  • Hard Reset your Router: To do so, unplug your Router and modem from the outlet and wait for 5 minutes. Afterward, plug them back into the outlet and turn on both Router and modem.
  • Disconnect Other Devices: If too many devices are connected to your WiFi, try disconnecting them and check if this works.
  • Reconnect All Cables: Try reconnecting all your cables connected to the Router and modem and wait for 5 minutes.

    Afterward, connect all the cables back into their ports and turn on your Router and modem. Wait until the network establishes appropriately.
  • Call ISP: If your network is still behaving the same, try calling your ISP and ask them to fix the network issue.
  • Connect with Hotspot: In the meanwhile, try connecting your Echo Dot to your mobile hotspot. Once your Echo Dot is connected to a mobile hotspot, check to see if the Blue ring light persists. If it’s still there, try moving on to the following method.

Disable DND Mode

Some users reported that they resolved the Blue Ring of Death by turning off the Do Not Disturb Mode. To disable the Do Not Disturb Mode;

  • Launch the Alexa app on your device and head to the Devices section.
  • Now, select your Echo Dot and Disable/Turn Off Do Not Disturb mode.

Check this, if the Do Not Disturb Mode Won’t Turn Off.
