How to Enable Dolby Atmos on Samsung Smart TV

Recently one of my relatives bought a Samsung smart tv with Dolby Atmos. But he was not sure how to enable the Dolby Atmos sound on his Samsung tv. This is a problem many Samsung tv users face nowadays. In this post, we’re going to address how you can enable the Dolby Atmos sound on your Samsung smart tv and how to disable it in the future.

Does My Samsung TV Support Dolby Atmos

Most of the time people are unsure whether their Samsung tv supports Dolby Atmos or not. If your tv doesn’t have the Dolby Atmos feature then you won’t be able to play Dolby Atmos content on your Samsung smart tv. According to Samsung tv models that are released after 2020 support Dolby Atmos and Samsung soundbars that are released after 2019 support Dolby Atmos. If not then google your smart tv model and check in the tv description if it supports the Dolby Atmos feature. 

Dolby Atmos is Only Supported Through HDMI mode

Things to remember while using Dolby Atmos through a soundbar or any other audio device.

  1. Connect the HDMI cable from the HDMI out (TV Arc) port of the soundbar to the HDMI in (ARC/eARC) port on your tv.
  2. If you’re using a Bluray disk player then make sure no encoding is selected in the bitstream.
  3. Make sure secondary audio is set off.
  4. On your Samsung tv home screen make sure that audio is selected auto.
  5. Also, make sure that the app or content you are trying to play supports the Dolby Atmos.

Enable Dolby Atmos on Your Samsung TV

You need to set up your Samsung tv settings properly to enjoy the Dolby Atmos sound on your Samsung smart tv. Make these settings on your Samsung tv by following the steps below.

  1. On your Samsung tv remote press the home button.
  2. Select the settings options.
  3. Now select the sound menu from the setting options.
  4. Select experts settings from the list.
  5. Now set HDMI-eARC mode to auto.
  6. Scroll down and set digital output audio format as auto or pass through.
  7. Now select Dolby Atmos compatibility to activate Dolby Atmos on your Samsung tv.

Now try playing a show or movie through Netflix. While playing a movie on Netflix you’ll get the Dolby Atmos logo on your screen. If you’re facing issues in playing Dolby Atmos on your Samsung tv then make sure anynet + is set properly on your Samsung tv.

Enable Anynet+(HDMI-CEC)

  1. Go to the home screen of your Samsung tv and select settings.
  2. Now select the general option.
  3. Go to external device manager.
  4. Now select Anynet + (HDMI-CEC) to turn it on.

How to Check if Dolby Atmos is Working or Not?

  1. Play Dolby Atmos content: Go to Netflix or any other apps that support Dolby Atmos. Play content that supports Dolby Atmos. Now play an action scene or a scene where too many things are moving. Now you’ll be able to detect the Dolby Atmos through your sound systems.
  2. Check for Dolby logo: Nowadays tv displays what audio type is playing. After playing a show or movie you’ll get the Dolby Atmos logo on your screen. If not then go to the menu check the audio info and check for the Dolby Atmos logo.
  3. Check your AV device: If you’re using an av receiver then check the display of the receiver for making sure what audio is your receiver detecting.
